Description

Nothing fascinates the genealogist in me more that something historical.  This plate was made by Copeland in Staffordshire in June of 1851 under the direct commission of Victor Mrofoffsky, which is printed in an oval on the back.  I wasn't able to track him down, but a Peter Mrofoffsky moved to England from St. Petersburg, Russia in the early 1900's, moved to England and married a British lady and then they moved to America.  This plate is the "Ionian" pattern and is very Romantic Victorian.  It seems to feature a romantic version of a mausoleum, which was very popular at the time; the border is surrounded by lilies.  I don't know if he had it made in honor of a family member or perhaps he just liked the pattern.  It features "The Three Graces" on the plinth and a face on the center back.  I found one other piece of his for sale in Russia that was just beaten to pieces.  The plate is in perfect condition but for a rough spot on the left side at 8:00 o'clock.  It measures 10.25".
