Description
Extremely rare salvaged spoon from the Cunard liner Lusitania. Brought up in 1982 from the Specie Room when Oceaneering did its salvage work on the wreck. Originally, when first salvaged and before one was cleaned, they were thought to be silver Cunard spoons, but they turned out to be spoons with a likeness of Lord Kitchener on them that were being shipped to the UK to be sold to raise money for the war effort, similar to war bonds during WWII.These almost never come up for sale because the salvage company kept almost all of them, and over the years, they have been lost. The spoon can be easily cleaned with a mild detergent and warm water (as I have done with mine). They shine up beautifully. Items from the wreck are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain, and this is a rare opportunity to own something that went to the bottom with Lusitania.
Note that this auction is for one uncleaned spoon. The polished one shown is from my collection and is not included in the auction.
Shipping is by priority mail within the US (including insurance) and overseas. All shipping costs are estimates. Because I don’t know where the winning bidder lives before the auction ends, an exact postage charge cannot be calculated. If you want to know the exact amount of postage, please email me before the auction ends.
Payment must be made within 3 days. If payment is not received within the time frame stated, the transaction may be void and the item may be relisted.
Please do NOT pay until you receive an invoice as I do not want to overcharge you for postage.
