    Description

    Gogea Mitu (1914-1936)
    Romanian boxer who, at approximately 7-foot 9-inches, is considered both the tallest Romanian in history and, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, the tallest professional boxer. He died tragically at the age of 21 from a curious illness.
    Extremely rare vintage semi-glossy 7 x 5 full-length photo of Mitu towering over his manager and several famous bicycle racers (Antonin Magne, Franco Giorgetti, Fabio Battesini, Antonio Prior and Ambrogio Morelli), signed on the reverse in blue ink by Mitu, who adds the date, "Paris 27, XII 935." Ink notations on image side by an unknown hand. Reverse bears caption text and an "Agence ROL" stamp. In very good to fine condition, with trimmed side edges, scattered light creasing, and tack holes to corners. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, postmarked December 22, 1935.
