(9) Antique c.1897 Copeland (Spode) LAUREL WREATH 10 1/2" Plates
Description
Set of NINE plates by Copeland China, England, dating to 1897 in the highly collectible rare pattern with the green laurel branches. Laurel wreaths are a symbol of victory and honor. Each is about 10 1/2" wide, with elegant gadrooned rims with gold details. They have a substantial feel ~ the full set weighs in at about 10 1/2 pounds, before packing. Very versatile size. They would surely make beautiful service plates, but would be equally elegant for salad, appetizer course or dessert plated inside the branch circle.
MARKS: Sample of identifying Copeland China marks on base shown in photos below. There are impressed date codes for 1897.
CONDITION: Estate antique item about 120 years old. Four of the plates have a very minor flaw on the rim (scan down and see text under photos), with only two flaws being visible on the front (just barely). You will have a hard time finding and seeing these, but if you are searching, you will be able to feel them. Given how many points are on the edges of this form, it is amazing that they have survived in this good condition. Also expect a few surface marks on the front of some. Worst shown in photos below. Not mint, but still very very nice.
